“The results obtained from this pilot project are very encouraging. We have also received very good feedback from our clients and other stakeholders. We are determined to invest further in this initiative which may eventually lead to the deployment of a nationwide Wi-Fi network for the convenience of its clients”, commented Malcolm Briffa, Head of PR and Strategic Projects at Melita.

The free Wi-Fi period is being extended to enable Melita to gather more information on usage patterns as well as more client feedback on user experience . The service leverages the strength of the nationwide availability of Melita’s superior FibrePower broadband Internet technology.

Enter this number in the login screen on your phone’s web browser and proceed to browse the World Wide Web for free.

The free Wi-FI service is currently available in the main streets of Paceville covering an area of almost half a square kilometre including; Xatt Ta’ San Gorg, Triq Santu Wistin, Triq Santa Rita, Triq San Gorg, parts of Triq Elija Zammit, parts of Triq Id-Dragunara, Triq Il-Wilga and Triq Ball.

Melita’s Wi-Fi trial project is underway with the collaboration of industry leaders Motorola, Belair and Aptilo.

Melita would like to inform its clients that as from 14th February 2012, Body in Balance Channel ceased its transmissions. Notwithstanding a contractual agreement with Body in Balance to distribute locally, the UK channel business was shut down and as a consequence the channel went off air.

Whilst we apologise for any inconvenience caused, the company advises its customers that Melita only became aware of this situation upon noticing a break in transmission. The technical team at Melita contacted the channel providers in the UK and at this stage were informed that the channel had been shut down. Body in Balance Channel was available to XL package subscribers.

Melita recently added Ginx TV to the L and XL line – on channel 361. This is the first channel that is being aired locally and is dedicated to the world of gaming.

80% of Melita’s internet customers are subscribed to packages which deliver internet speeds of 15 Megabits per second or more.

“According to www.netindex.com by OOKLA, the average download speed in Europe is just over 13 Megabits per second, so this is a fantastic achievement for Melita and a great benefit for its customers. The vast majority of Melita’s customers today have a broadband internet connection which is faster than Europe’s average”, commented Mireille Muscat, Product Manager for Internet at Melita.

Commenting on this significant milestone, Melita’s Chief Operations Officer Ludolf Rasterhoff said “Such an achievement is the result of a clear vision and strong execution over the last years. It all started with Melita’s huge investment in the undersea fibre-optic cable to Sicily, completed in 2008. In 2010 Melita completed a huge upgrade of its network and last year we launched Fibre Power – the superior broadband technology.”

At present, Melita only sells internet access with speeds of 15 megabits per second or more. A healthy number of customers are also opting for higher broadband speeds thanks to Fibre Power packages of 25 Megabits and increasing up to 100 Megabits per second.

Ms Muscat added that, “Apart from delivering high broadband speeds, it is critical to ensure quality of service as well as affordability. Our entry level product now costs just €1.1 per Megabit when compared to a €3.5 per Megabit for the 4 Megabit product offered by our competitors.”

According to data published by www.netindex.com, Melita delivers the promised speed in more than 96% of instances – a significantly higher rate than the 85% score for EU average.

In comments to the club’s official website, Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Ajax are a good team and I’ve never faced them in competitive European football. I’m looking forward to it.”

On the other hand Ajax manager Frank de Boer expressed his delight at drawing a quality club like Manchester United and said he expects the English side to be tough adversaries. “I think I played one friendly match against Manchester United myself. It was when Peter Schmeichel was still goalkeeper at Old Trafford… Correct me if I’m wrong but I think I netted a free kick during that match.”

Post-match discussion and analysis will be hosted by Peter-Paul Gauci on “Focus Europa”.

Melita just announced that more award-winning shows will be premiering on its TV channel Melita More (Channel 801) which is currently available to all L and XL TV customers and subscribers to Movies&More. Amongst the new content we find “2 Broke Girls” and “Suburgatory,” two comedy series which have already secured stellar ratings in the US, and “Person of Interest,” a thought-provoking crime drama series from Jonathan Nolan (“The Dark Knight”) and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, the award-winning producers of series such as “Lost” and “Fringe,” as well as movies such as “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” which has grossed over USD 540 million worldwide. The series stars Jim Caviezel (“The Count of Monte Cristo,” “The Passion of the Christ”), Taraji P. Henson (“Hustle and Flow,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”), Kevin Chapman (“Rescue Me”) and Michael Emerson (“Lost”).

In February Melita More will also premiere the much-awaited action-drama series “Alcatraz,”also from J.J. Abrams. The chilling new drama revolves around America’s most infamous prison, the one-time home to the nation’s worst murderers, rapists, kidnappers, thieves and arsonists.
“With every new schedule we launch for Melita More we aim to include top ranking US series along with highly promising and anticipated series. The shows being included as from the beginning of 2012 follow this approach as well as the feedback we get from customers. There is a big demand for comedy shows and easy-flowing story lines. Most of the times after a hard day’s work our TV viewers just want to lay back and relax and have a good laugh. With this in mind, we have created a Comedy Marathon slot on Wednesdays between 8pm and 10:30pm. The content and approach on Melita More also complements our OnDemand! Club product which gives Entertainment Pack customers full flexibility to choose what to watch and when” commented Ivor Micallef, TV Product Manager at Melita.

Executive produced by Emmy® winner Michael Patrick King (“Sex and the City”), “2 Broke Girls” chronicles the lives of two girls in their early twenties—sassy and street smart Max , who works two jobs just to make rent, and Caroline , who was born rich but is now penniless after her fortune is taken away from her due to her father’s Ponzi-like scheme—who work together as waitresses at a greasy spoon diner in Brooklyn . Max is initially wary of Caroline, but she soon discovers Caroline has just as much substance as she does style, and the two strike up an unlikely friendship around their dream of one day opening a cupcake shop. All they need to do is come up with $250,000 in start-up expenses.

Created by King and stand-up comedian Whitney Cummings (“Whitney”), “2 Broke Girls” stars Kat Dennings (“Thor,” “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist”), Beth Behrs (“American Pie Presents: The Book of Love”), Garrett Morris (“The Jamie Foxx Show,” “Saturday Night Live”), Jonathan Kite (“I’m in the Band”) and Matthew Moy (“Scrubs,” “The Middle”). “2 Broke Girls” is produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television and distributed around the world by Warner Bros. International Television Distribution.

In its first season in the US, “2 Broke Girls” is averaging more than 13 million viewers per week, ranking as the #1 new comedy of the season among Total Viewers and #1 new series of any kind among Adults 18–49. It was voted Favorite New TV Comedy at the 2012 People’s Choice Awards.
“Suburgatory” premiered in the US in September 2011 and is averaging over eight million viewers per episode. In “Suburgatory,” after New York City architect George Altman, a handsome single father in his late thirties, finds a box of unopened condoms in his teenage daughter’s room, he decides to move them to the suburbs so he can give his daughter, Tessa, a better, “safer” life..As Tessa negotiates this brand-new world of malls, manicured lawns, blonde and bronzed teens and moms who want to be her friend, she learns animal print is considered a color, any skirt below mid-thigh is considered too long and the neighbors truly are friendly. Maybe too friendly. Trapped behind the endless white picket fences of the suburbs, this 16-year-old indie kid is in her own unique version of hell. Forget purgatory — this is suburgatory. But little by little, Tessa and her dad begin to find a way to survive on the clean streets of the suburbs, and it may just bring Tessa and George closer than they’ve ever been.

Suburgatory stars Jeremy Sisto (Six Feet Under, Law & Order, Thirteen), Jane Levy (Shameless, upcoming Fun Size), Carly Chaikin (The Last Song), Allie Grant (Weeds), Rex Lee (Entourage), with Alan Tudyk (Knocked Up, Death at a Funeral, 3:10 to Yuma) and Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Brothers & Sisters, In the Motherhood). Ana Gasteyer (Saturday Night Live, Mean Girls) is a recurring guest star. Suburgatory was created by Emily Kapnek (Hung, Parks and Recreation, As Told by Ginger), who also serves as executive producer of the series, which is produced by Warner Bros. Television and distributed around the world by Warner Bros. International Television Distribution.

Melita More is a channel exclusively available to Melita TV customers which includes a variety of US hit series varying from comedy to drama. Along with these new shows the channel includes top titles such as Fringe, How I Met Your Mother, Desperate Housewives, Gossip Girl and True Blood. A full line up is available on Melita’s website.

With more than 150 TV channels, a free OnDemand! Club service and MovieRentals, Melita is home for the best entertainment.

Melita has registered a steady increase in telephony porting following changes in regulations implemented by the Malta Communications Authority aimed at removing a long-standing barrier which prohibited GO internet customers in Malta from changing their telephony provider.

Until a few weeks ago, GO ADSL internet customers were denied the possibility of changing their fixed telephony number to another telephony service provider. Customers were unable to do so in view of their subscription to the company’s internet service (which is provided via a telephone line).

Commenting on this new development, Kevin Borg, Head of Customer Experience and Sales at Melita said, “This is a relief for many families. Since this new regulation came into force, Melita has experienced a surge in porting from ADSL customers who are happy to move their number to other telephony providers offering cheaper prices. In the last weeks, the average number of customers moving their telephone number to Melita has more than tripled on the average of previous weeks.”

Following repeated interventions by MCA, GO now has to allow customers to move their telephony number freely allowing them to opt for cheaper telephone solutions such as those offered by Melita.

For more information on how to start saving on your home or office telephony with Melita simply call 27270270.
