Melita has extended its free outdoor Wi-Fi broadband trials to the Granaries in Floriana, powered by its unique Fibre Power broadband service. Throughout the trial period, all Melita customers and non-customers can avail themselves of free internet while at the Granaries area through any Wi-Fi enabled mobile phone.

The service is already available and anyone attending the Isle of MTV concert tonight may make use of this service.

Accessing the free Wi-Fi broadband service is very simple. When at the Granaries, users need a Wi-Fi enabled mobile phone to complete a one-time registration process. Scan for Wi-Fi networks and choose the network “MELITA FREE WI-FI”. When you open your web browser you will be requested to enter your mobile number. An instant SMS will be sent to that mobile number with a registration code. Enter this number in the login screen on your phone’s web browser, and you are ready to browse the world-wide-web for free.

The free Wi-Fi broadband trial service is also available in selected areas of Paceville: Xatt Ta’ San Gorg, Triq Santu Wistin, Triq Santa Rita, Triq San Gorg, parts of Triq Elija Zammit, parts of Triq Id-Dragunara, Triq Il-Wilga and Triq Ball.

International independent broadband monitor www.netindex.com has confirmed Melita as the fast broadband internet service provider in Malta with an average download speed of 21 Megabits per second – ahead of the EU average of 13.5 Megabits per second.

Melita’s Wi-Fi trial project is underway with the collaboration of industry leaders Motorola, Belair and Aptilo.
