Children are the future, and their healthy development, both physically and mentally, is crucial for future communities and societies. The Helen O’ Grady Drama Academy was first founded back in 1979 in Australia. and today, with branches all over the world including Malta, it aims at providing children and young adults with useful skills and self-development through drama.
By encouraging enthusiasm, energy, and a positive approach to life, the Helen O’Grady Academy helps boost children’s confidence, self-esteem, verbal communication skills, effective social interaction, and performance skills. Through this unique drama-based developmental programme, the academy also nurtures creative talents.
The Melita Foundation supports a specific programme offered by The Helen O’Grady Academy in Malta, aimed at children in care or at risk of social exclusion.
Due to social and unfortunate family situations, it is impossible for some children to attend such programmes. Thanks to The Melita Foundation’s support however, even children in such difficult situations get the chance to profit from this self-development programme.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, and supported by The Melita Foundation, The Helen O’Grady Academy offers children in care the opportunity to attend a programme designed by specialists in the field of child and drama-based development. The programme aims to help children from develop skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and creativeness.
Sessions are fast-moving and packed with fun, improvisation, physical theatre, script work, and dance. The main aim is not to turn children into performing artists but to help them develop into the best version of themselves by encouraging their creative spirit, self-confidence, and artistic skills.
