The Melita Foundation
Over the past five years, the Melita Foundation has established itself as a strong and enduring force for positive change in Malta. Since its inception, the Foundation has supported more than 85 projects across the country, making a meaningful impact in four key areas; digital skills, creativity, heritage and the environment. Through this work, the Melita Foundation has become an important partner for schools, NGOs, artists, community organisations and environmental groups working to build a more inclusive, creative, digital and sustainable Malta.
Maltese Heritage
These projects have taken many different forms but share a common goal of enriching Maltese society and creating opportunities for future generations. From digital literacy programmes that equip young people and vulnerable groups with essential skills for a connected world, to cultural and creative initiatives that nurture local talent and celebrate Maltese identity, the Foundation’s support has reached communities across the islands. Its contribution to the preservation of Malta’s heritage, from the restoration of historic sites to projects that make culture more accessible, has contributed to safeguarding the country’s unique legacy. Environmental initiatives have also featured prominently, with funding provided for projects addressing sustainability, biodiversity, and education on the responsible use of resources. Together, these diverse efforts have demonstrated the Foundation’s commitment to building long-term resilience in Maltese society.
EQT Infrastructure
The sustainability of the Melita Foundation itself was strengthened in late 2025 thanks to a significant donation from EQT Infrastructure, Melita’s outgoing shareholders, following the sale of Melita Limited to Goldman Sachs Alternatives. This contribution ensures that the Melita Foundation will remain well funded and able to continue supporting important community projects for years to come. EQT’s contribution represents a lasting legacy of their time as Melita’s owners, underlining their belief in the Melita Foundation’s mission and in the importance of continuing to give back to the communities Melita serves.
Goldman Sachs Alternatives
Just as importantly, Melita’s new shareholder, Goldman Sachs Alternatives, has confirmed its commitment to maintaining the Melita Foundation and its purpose. This continuity means that the Melita Foundation’s work and independence will remain and it will continue to pursue its mission with the same dedication and focus that have defined its first five years. The Melita Foundation will go on supporting projects that promote digital inclusion, foster creativity, protect Malta’s heritage and encourage environmental sustainability.
Melita Foundation’s achievements
Reflecting on the Melita Foundation’s achievements and future, Chair of the Melita Foundation, Professor Tanya Sammut-Bonnici, said: “Over the past five years, the Melita Foundation has grown into an important platform for social investment in Malta. The projects we have supported have strengthened digital skills, empowered creative communities, protected our heritage and encouraged more sustainable practices. None of this would have been possible without the passion and collaboration of the many partners, volunteers and organisations we work with, whose commitment continues to inspire us. Thanks to the continued support of Melita and its shareholders, we can look ahead with confidence, knowing that the Melita Foundation will remain a catalyst for positive change.”
As the Melita Foundation looks to the future, it does so from a position of strength and optimism. The impact achieved so far shows what is possible when resources, expertise and community come together. With a secure financial footing and the ongoing backing of Melita’s shareholders, the Foundation is well placed to support even more initiatives that make a tangible difference in people’s lives.
